My urban croft

As the UrbanCrofter I write about my various projects in my garden, my kitchen and my workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland. My motto is ‘creativity with purpose’. Inspired by traditional crafts, I make honest and sustainable products for a modern lifestyle. I hope you’ll find my posts interesting and perhaps will have a look in my Etsy shop.

My kitchen, the hub of our home

Tasty home made food is extremely important to my family, and one of the things that brought my husband and me together – we both like to eat, cook, and try new things. We have involved our kids from an early age: stirring, chopping, mixing, and washing up. Some of our happiest family memories are cooking together and enjoying the yummy results. I prepare most of our food from raw ingredients. I bake our bread, brew our beer, and make our jams and jellies. Recently we started experimenting with sausage making, pickling and fermenting.

In 2009 we built a new extension, allowing me to design our bright and spacious kitchen, with loads of counter space and easy access to our growing collection of pots, pans and other kitchenalia.

Treasured kitchenalia

Over the years we’ve amassed quite a collection of kitchenware. Our most treasured items have been passed down in the family, bought in charity shops, and factory outlets. Below some of our more peculiar kitchenalia.
