My kitchen, the hub of our home
Martina the UrbanCrofter
About me
I am Martina, the UrbanCrofter. I’m inspired by traditional crafts to create quality products for everyday use. My move to Scotland ten years ago introduced me to new techniques and materials, and triggered a renewed interest in heritage and traditional skills.
Knitting, weaving, sewing, basket weaving, gardening and making preserves were essential skills for any crofter: to run the croft, to feed and clothe the family, and to earn welcome cash. Inspired by my Dutch rural childhood and recent holidays around Scotland, I’ve been applying these crafts in urban Edinburgh.
Time to refocus my life
In 2014 a stroke severely changed my life. It was time to refocus, reflect, and find a new way forward. I found resolution in gardening, knitting, sewing and discovering basket weaving. On this site I will share my creativity to create purposeful and honest modern products from my garden, my kitchen and my workshop.
Like a traditional crofter I also sell some of my creations. If you are interested, visit my Etsy shop.
I hope you enjoy my pages and welcome any comments or suggestions.
